What happened, and what to check on your current site
On 21 October 2026, two critical flaws in PHP were disclosed and patched. Together they are known as PHP2Shell (CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619). PHP is the language that runs WordPress and many other website systems, and many dive centre websites run on them.
The fix is a PHP update to version 8.2.35, 8.3.36, 8.4.27, 8.5.12 or newer. That update happens on the server, which is run by your hosting company. As a WordPress site owner you cannot install it yourself: updating plugins or themes does not fix it. Until your host updates PHP, the site stays exposed.
